SHOREHAM inshore lifeboat and coastguard helicopter were launched on Tuesday night (May 7) after a man got into trouble while trying to swim near Worthing Pier.
The swimmer, who is believed to have drinking, had been attempting to swim to the buoys but began struggling.
The inshore lifeboat crew found the 32-year-old and took him ashore. The helicopter, India Juliet, landed on the beach so the on board paramedic could examine him and check he did not need further treatment.
A lifeboat spokesman said: "The water is still extremely cold at this time of year and as the man had been in it for some time it was decided that he needed to be medically examined."
