£10,000 prize pot up for grabs at Goodwood

Owners have until Monday, September 6, to register their horses for the new and improved Racehorse Owners' Association Speed Bonus at Goodwood on Sunday, September 12, when a guaranteed minimum £10,000 pot will be up for grabs.

The registration deadline has been extended by three days from the original cut-off of Friday, September 3.

Successfully staged for the first time last year, the fantastic innovation lucratively rewards the fastest ROA-registered horse to compete during the captivating seven-race fixture.

The Speed Bonus prize will go to the ROA-registered horse that clocks the best per-furlong time in any of the day's races at Goodwood. Assessment will be carried out according to the Racing Post Standard Time criteria.

In order to qualify for the excellent initiative, horses must be at least 50% owned by an ROA member at the time of the event's final declarations (Friday, September 10) and must also be ROA-registered. The more horses that register before the deadline on September 6, the higher the bonus will rise above the 10,000 minimum.

Registration for the ROA Speed Bonus costs 250 and must be completed by Monday, September 6, 2010. For those owners wishing to register as ROA members, annual membership costs 195. Registration can be completed by contacting the ROA on 020 7152 0200 or via email at info@roa.co.uk

An initial registration stage offering a reduced fee of 150 per horse commenced on July 26 and closed on August 16.

The owner of the Speed Bonus winner will receive 80% of the prize fund, the trainer 10%, the jockey 5% and the winning stable 5%.

Goodwood Racecourse is also generously offering a separate 5,000 bonus to the fastest winning horse of the day, whether ROA-registered or not.

The seven-race card kicks off with the 12-furlong toteswinger Bonus Handicap (2pm) and continues with the seven-furlong Nick Brooks Nursery (2.35pm), the www.goodwood.com Bonus Handicap (3.10pm) over a mile, the 10-furlong TurfTV Bonus Handicap (3.45pm), the six-furlong Goodwood Revival 17th-19th September Bonus Handicap (4.20pm) and the two-mile Racing UK on Sky 432 Bonus Handicap (4.55pm) before concluding with the seven-furlong TurfTV For Betting Shops Bonus Handicap (5.30pm).
