There's reports from Petworth & Bognor Angling Club and the Three Counties Angling League in this week's round-up.
PETWORTH & BOGNOR
They called it the 'Let's see how wet we can get' match on the Chichester Canal and despite horrendous conditions six brave souls turned up for a good soaking.
The wind soon saw off John Williams' brolly, quickly followed by S
teve Simmonds' one, but the weather slightly improved as the day wore on.
The amazing thing about the canal is it continues to fish well despite conditions, so Mark Pantling, a bit of a canal expert, won with 11lb 10oz, with Williams, minus brolly, second with 8lb 13oz and Simmonds third with 4lb 14oz. Most catches were roach and mixed skimmers.
The past few weeks have provided ideal conditions, both the Rother and Arun presenting anglers with what many consider to be the best time to try their luck.
The only problem – yes, anglers can always find an excuse – were low water levels, mainly on the Rother, which has been very low apart from the Fittleworth stretch which seems to have provided most fish.
The Coates Castle stretch has provided good roach, and large carp and bream have been caught. Some good barbel continue to be caught from the Arun and, as winter approaches, there will be the usual large pike from Hardham and Watersfield.
A lot of hard work and effort from Nelson Keet and his team has resulted in Hurston Lane Fishery, Storrington, looking in excellent condition.
Petworth & Bognor AC are always seeking volunteers to help work parties.
Club secretary Steve Simmonds gave up a day's fishing to provide everyone with a well-earned barbecue.
