On home soil and still on form, Tom led his team to a win over Haywards Heath in the quarter-finals of the Alan Covey Cup.

The team comprised Matt Campbell, Jeremy Pike, Henry Leo, Dan Osbourne, Robbie Twyford, Henry Anscombe, George Pyett and Tom Aspital.

Selsey golfers look up to 85-year-old John Cawte – and no wonder. On one of the hottest blustery days, John, hitting the fairways and staying out of the rough, outplayed his 49 rivals in the men's strokeplay competition.

Not only did he gross 81, four shots under his age, his handicap was chopped from 14 to 13 with his nett score of 67.

He was the overall winner on countback from Dan Nolan with gross 75, nett 67.

The clubs' open day and taster session for juniors were again a great success with copious amounts of juice, cake and biscuits consumed after the playing of tri-golf and 'golf xtreme'.

Coaching lessons were given throughout the day by club pro Peter Grindley.

The veterans had an Arizona shuffle.

Eleven teams of three in a seeded draw played on stableford points.

Winning team were Roger Browell, Ray Sleet, Harry Newman. Runners-up were Ray Holmes, Dave Tindale and John Taylor.
