Chichester's juniors started the winter in fine style in the South of England Road Relay Championships at Aldershot.
In their first season in the under-17 ranks, Chichester’s trio of Jess McKenzie, Ellie Purvis and Katie Johnson achieved the club’s highest-ever finish in the junior age groups with a fine eighth place.

Earlier in the day the under-15 team of Br
yony and Katrina Richards-White, together with Bethany Garland, came in 37th in the biggest field of the day where 80 teams started.

The boys’ under-15s were unlucky to be missing a fourth runner as Jamie Moore, George Richardson and Ollie Pickersgill had put them in a good position lying 25th after three legs.

In the under-13s, Jamie McKenzie had a solo run on the first stage and was keeping up with the leading group when he was boxed in and accidentally tripped.

n The best athletes in Sussex will be in action at Goodwood this Saturday for the popular County Cross Country Relay Championships.

Set over an undulating course it will be the first opportunity of the season for athletes to test their cross- country form after their track racing during the summer.

With races in all age groups from under-13 to veterans, Chichester will be hoping to pick up a number of medals. The action starts at midday opposite Goodwood Racecourse.

n Chichester’s top senior runner James Baker blew away the opposition in the Butser Hill Race on Sunday, finishing three minutes clear of the field.
