Ladies' golf fun at Chichester is for a great cause

Chichester GC lady captain Christine Hillier had a lovely sunny warm day for her captain's day on the Tower Course at Chichester Golf Club.

Partners were drawn for the four-ball better-ball competition.

Scoring was good, with the ball running well. Sang Porter and Hazel Chandler with 48 stableford points pipped Roslyn Georgiades and Sue Winterbotham by one point to win the competition.

A raffle and ball sweep raised more than £400 for Breast Cancer Care.
Christine was appreciative of all the raffle prizes donated and the balls for the ball sweep, which were donated by the club proprietor Sally Haygarth.

Other results: Front nine: Jeannie Blackman & Melva Bateman 23pts; back nine: Maggie Martin-Prudhomme & Jennifer Fidler 26pts; straightest drive on 12th: Val Edwards; nearest pin on 1st: Caroline Hawkes; nearest pin on 3rd: Margaret Boon.

AVISFORD PARK

Some 39 senior members took part in the annual Texas scramble.
The winning team comprised John Taylor, Kevin Brown and Kevin Durden-Jackson, with a nett score of 52.4.

Second were Howard Peters, John Hall and Dave Poulter on 53.7, and third were Bob Bridges, Wally Small and Bill Lock on 54.4.

COWDRAY PARK

The Midhurst, Holmes and Edwards cups were held at Cowdray Park over two days.

Results: Midhurst Cup (36-hole handicap medal), winner Trevor Challen 138, runner-up Martin Hunter 140; Holmes Cup (36-hole scratch medal), winner Martin Hunter 148, runner-up Sean White 150; Edwards Cup (best 18 holes handicap medal) winner Simon Goodale 67, runner-up Brian Bulpitt.

A total of 42 players played over the weekend.

Cowdray Park seniors lost 4-2 to Blackmoor.

Results: David Heard & Peter Hallt won 1 up against Charles Gordon & Mike Starbuck; Rod Wooldridge & John Start lost 3&1 to Peter Groocock & Don Banks; John Stone & Melvyn Milburn won 6&5 against Ross Sellars & Mike White; Dave Tilley & Richard Keep lost 8&6 to Maurice Bonner and Mike England; Keith Chapman & John Friend lost 6&5 to Peter Hunt & Jeff Lee; Alan Austin & Ken Young lost 5&4 to Barry Collins & Dennis Adams.

The seniors won 6-1 at home to Liphook.
