MIDHURST went out with a bang as a goal in each half saw them bring three points home from their final-day visit to Storrington.
James Glue put Dave Kelly's men ahead moments before half-time after a first half in which neither side managed to impose any sort of authority on the game.

Storrington hit back with an equaliser by Grantham before Midhurst had had time to settle back into things in the second half.

For a while, both teams cancelled each other out and it looked like it might be honours even on the final day.

But just after the hour, Stephens added another goal to his impresive tally for the season.

That proved enough for the visitors in a second half which again failed to excite.

The draw cemented Midhurst's finishing position just inside the top half of the table – in fact they ended tenth, seven points clear of 11th-placed Steyning.

But they may look back on the season and wonder how they might have finished higher.

They worked their way into the top four in the first half of the campaign, but failed to maintain the early-season consistency which got them there.

A record of six defeats in their 17 home games was a major factor in seeing them slip down the table.

But nevertheless, if tenth had been offered at the start of the campaign, few at Rotherfield.

Midhurst's second XI were one of four local reserve sides to finish in the top five of the reserve section west.

Pagham won it, Midhurst ended third, Sidlesham fourth and Chichester City United fifth.

Now all at Rotherfield will enjoy a break and start thinking how they might do even better next term.
