Rocks fans set for a legendary match
THE BIG day is almost here – and Rocks fans can hardly wait.
This Sunday (1pm) sees the Bognor Legends take on a professional XI at Nyewood Lane to mark the 125th anniversary of the club and bid a grand farewell to Michael Birmingham, who has joined Gosport after 14 years as a Rocks player and manager.
A couple of the pros' squad have had to say they cannot make it – Andy Awford and Guy Butters are out of the game. But ex-Pompey striker Warren Aspinall has been drafted in.
Added to the Bognor squad are Matt Russell, Seb Wallis-Tayler and Jodey Rowland.
Jim Smith, who was due to manage the pros, has also had to withdraw.
Sarah Warwick, who chairs the BRTFC Supporters' Club, said: "We're all excited about Sunday.
"Everybody is working very hard towards it.
"We'll be having a 125th anniversary balloon race with a spectacular launch from the centre-circle at half time.
"Ian Guppy is arranging a raffle for a penalty shoot-out with a prize donated by Blue Square, and we have 125 very special Rocks limited edition chocolate bars for sale.
"Rocky Bear is getting very nervous and also thinks he has legendary status.
"The Supporters' Club have purchased a very retro kit for the Legends to wear on the day, with a chance to win one of the shirts.
"It will also be an lovely opportunity for the fans to give Birmy, Craig Stoner and Jodey Rowland a great send-off and see some old favourites.
"The thought of Adie Miles and Super Lukey Nightingale up front for the Bognor is mouthwatering. I fully expect the Rocks to win!"
Kick-off is at 1pm. Admission is £5 for all adults, £2 children. A family of four, including two kids, can get in for £10.
