Skipper Chris Adams is a doubt for Sussex's county championship visit to The Oval.
Adams' fitness will be decided on the morning of the match. Leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed will miss the encounter, as he is still experiencing some discomfort in his knee.
Sussex, having drawn seven of their eleven matches so far, sit fifth in Division One – just 20 points off league leaders Nottinghamshire.
Some 22 points separate the teams, with Surrey struggling at the foot of the table. The hosts have not yet registered a Championship victory this year.
