Chichester Centurions are celebrating lifting the Sussex Vase.

They travelled to Lewes to face Worthing Ladies II in the final – a team they have played twice previously this season.

The game was a tale of two halves, with Centurions taking their time to find their groove.

The game was good-humoured, with both teams enjoying the occasion.
From the opening whistle, both teams battled to gain the upper hand and both teams came close to taking an early lead.

Nicki Williams came close for Centurions when she just put the ball wide of the post.

Worthing thought they had taken the lead when they converted a short corner strike, but fortunately for Centurions, the initial strike had been above the legal height so the score remained 0-0.

In the second half, Centurions' experience from previous finals prevailed and they dominated.

Louise Harris, Debbie Brown and Hilary Smith took control of midfield and cut out many attacks by Worthing.

Their ability to turn defence into attack gave Centurions' forwards the scoring opportunities they relish.

The deadlock was broken midway through the second half when a run of short corners was finally converted by a crisp Louise Thew strike into the bottom left-hand corner.

At 1-0, Centurions' spirits were lifted and their confidence grew.

Caroline Chandler made some crucial interceptions in defence, which denied Worthing an equaliser.

With five minutes to go, Harris picked the ball up in midfield and found Thew with a pinpoint pass. She drove the ball into the D and hit the post with her shot.

The ball spun along the line, leaving Lisa Proctor to tap in for Centurions second.

At 2-0, and with only minutes to go, Centurions had the game sewn up.
They played out the win and enjoyed finally getting their hands on the Sussex Vase trophy, having failed in previous attempts.

As well as bringing home the Vase, Louise Harris was also awarded the player of the match trophy.
