Fifty-one members of Bognor's vets section took part in the fourth round of the Fletcher Trophy, hoping to obtain sufficient qualifying points to enter next month's final.
The winner was Joe Cookson on 38 points, with Brian Poston second, Dennis Smith third and Ian Simpson fourth, all on 37.
Some 39 have qualified for the final with Joe Cookson having achieved 52 points, Peter Collins 47 and Rod Osborne third on 42.
This year the veterans' open invitation day attracted the largest entry to date – 96 competitors from 22 clubs.
The Bognor Centenary Plate was won by a team from Ifield scoring 139 points.
Rowlands Castle were second on 131, Haywards Heath third on 129.
Individual overall winner was Dave Christenson (Ifield) with 40 points, with Alex Mackenzie (Haywards Heath) second and Phil King (Waterlooville) third, both on 39 points.
Bognor's ladies' St Trinian's Day – featured in the Observer last week and still viewable on video at www.bognor.co.uk – ended with prizes aplenty being handed out.
Winners: Silver division, Lyn Watson (36pts); bronze A, Barbara Trenchard (33); bronze B, Berit Smallcorn (36). Winning team: Edwina Berisford, Sue Redmond and Kay Walker, second Liz Quinton, Lyn Watson and Janet Weeks; best-dressed team: Val Barnett, Shirley Parminter and Pat Rishman.
AVISFORD PARK
The winners of the Avisford Park seniors' section's stableford competition have been announced.
Results: Div 1: 1 Al Winterton, 2 Brian Coughlan, 3 David Feist; Div 2: 1 Terry Smith, 2 Basil Woolven, 3 Mick Joyce.
Some 36 players competed for the Gerry Reid Trophy, made and presented by the seniors' first chairman.
Winner was Tony Stansfield with 41 points, second was Mike Gammon (38), third was Peter Brown (37).
Afterwards, Gerry Reid treated the players to a splendid barbecue.
