Another daunting trip - but this one has a different outcome for Midhurst

For their sixth away game of the season, Midhurst faced another daunting trip to the far end of the county with a feeling they must pick up at least one point from Seaford if they were to move away from the stragglers at the foot of the table.

And they gave a much better display than in several games before this as they notched that sought-after first victory.

Seaford always seem to get the measure of Midhurst and for the opening ten minutes they looked like they would cause the Blues plenty of problems.

Seaford were quick out of the blocks, with Midhurst struggling to contain them. But Midhurst started to come to life, finding their shape and a little more composure.

The deadlock was broken when Ashley Holloway converted a well-delivered cross from John McDermott into the Seaford net.

Seaford were stung into action in the second half, with Midhurst shot-stopper Paul Williamson called into action with a string of good saves to keep the score in the travelling side's favour.

McDermott, playing as a lone striker, was showing plenty of enterprise in taking on some uncharacteristic defensive duties, and looking sharp by orchestrating a series of counter-attacks.

A second for Midhurst would have eased the pressure, but the back-line lookedg composed.

Seaford made significant changes, with Tom Chapman and Jared Leech replacing Sean Breech and Tom Morton.

This increased the pressure on Midhurst who were under the cosh but they managed to see the game out and take all three points.

Midhurst welcome Bexhill to Rotherfield this Saturday.

MIDHURST: Williamson, Dummer, Glue, Taylor, Hyde Lawrence, Saunders, Costa, Hyde Lewis, McDermott, Clayton, Holloway. Subs: Sheldrick, Brayson.
