UP-AND-COMING Chichester rugby ace Mike Uta has been selected to start for England Colleges in Portugal this week.

The No8 is a student at Chichester College and plays regularly for Chichester’s second XV, although made his full debut in the first XV’s Sussex Trophy win at home to Lewes at the weekend.

Uta was one of three Chichester youngsters who were selected for trials for the national colleges squad.

Uta is developing his talent under the tutelage of Chichester RFC’s rugby development officer and head of rugby at Chichester College Rob Lawrence, who said: “Mike’s selection is excellent news for the formative stage we are at with the rugby academy at Chichester College.

“Getting three players to final trials was fantastic as we look to lift the standard of rugby played in the area.”

Although the set-up is recognised by the RFU, England Colleges players are required to provide funding through sponsorship.

If any local business would like to assist with sponsorship, they can call Chichester RFC’s Paul Colley on 07896 970703.
