Dave's delighted at Cowdray captain's day success
More than 150 players turned out to support Dave Balfour on his captains' day at Cowdray Park.
It was a glorious sunny day which was enjoyed by all. After the prizegiving in the evening guests were entertained by local band Wah Wah.
Some 1,600 was raised for the captain's charity, the Fountain Centre.
Results: Men: 1 Paul shepherd 42, 2 Chris Cummins 40 ocb, 3 Kevin Raisbrook 40, 4 Phil Pett 40, 5 Shaun White 40. Ladies: Lil Cummins 39, 2 Terry Hughs 38, 3 Angela Pike 37. Scratch: Jamie Cummins, gross 68.
The June medal at Cowdray Park involved 87 players.
Results: Div 1: Wayne Robertson nett 67, Div 2: Dave Balfour 65 (overall winner), Div 3: Oliver Hyde 66.
The Cowdray Antlers, a mixed foursomes medal, was played for by 18 pairs.
Results: Winners: Wayne Robertson & Janice Leath, nett 71.5, runners-up: Chris Strudwick & Fran Bune 72.
Cowdray Park seniors took a welcome break from their plethora of inter-club matches, 23 so far this season,with their monthly stableford competition.
A total of 92 players took to the fairways, under superb conditions and the overall winner was John Smith with a magnificent 42 points.
In second place was the consistent Chris Hoare with 39, on countback from Allen Sibley, fresh from his victory in the Ham Manor seniors' open the previous day.
The raffle afterwards raised an excellent 168 for the Sussex Snowdrop Trust.
Cowdray Park seniors sent six players to the Ham Manor seniors' invitation, and were rewarded with two players finishing in the first two places in the visitors' section.
Allen Sibley won with 38 points, while Graham Evans finished second with 36. Both received their prizes from Ham Manor's club captain, Noel Moran.
These two scores were all the more creditable as most of the scores recorded were under 30 points on a difficult windy day.
Cowdray Park seniors travelled to take on the Hindhead Stags in their own lair, which is one of the more testing courses they play with heather and bunkers in abundance.
Not surprisingly the visitors were beaten 5-2 with the highlight of the day being match manager David Laver's putt on the 15th, which hit the hole at a rate of knots leapt high in the air and dropped back into the hole, stunning the home pair who looked likely to win the hole.
