A FORMER Stirlands player is making a name for himself at Middlesex.

Nick Gubbins scored 54 and 15 for the county on his debut at Lord’s in last week’s county championship draw with Northants.

He followed that with 59 and 95 in Middlesex’s first innings in their current championship game against Somerset at Uxbridge – and was unlucky to be run out five short of his century.

He played as a colt for Stirlands and was in their first team until a couple of years ago when he went to university and got picked up by Middlesex.

His older brother Will is Stirlands’ captain this season.
