Not many fathers get to play alongside their son in a rugby match against a team as strong as the Royal Navy - less so in an under-23 side.
But Mike Dinan senior was asked to play alongside son Michael when the Chichester team were found to be short on numbers to face the senior service.
Mike was flattered by his invitation and said: “I thought the coach believed that I looked young for my age!”
He soon realised it was simply his presence on the pitch that was required, regardless of his age. Nevertheless, he didn’t need to be asked twice and jumped straight in.
Despite a strong second half, Chichester lost. Regardless, Mike was thrilled to be given the opportunity to play alongside Chichester’s up-and-coming talent in a game that witnessed a unique double act.
