Favourites prosper at Fontwell's St Patrick's raceday

Four favourites and one joint favourite were among the winners on Fontwell's St Patrick's race day.

A good crowd enjoyed some competitive racing - although fields were small - and a range of Irish-themed entertainment including music and the chance to see Ireland deny England the Six Nations Grand Slam.

Four of the races went to horses tipped on this website the day before the meeting.

There was a predictable start to proceedings as the European Breeders Fund Mares’ “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle went to the 2/9 favourie Ms Parfois for trainer Anthony Honeyball and jockey Harry Cobden.

The next market leader to prevail was Cool Sky (2/1) in the Casino Guide UK Handicap Hurdle for Ian Williams and jockey David Noonan.

Trainer Fiona Shaw and jockey Ian Popham teamed up to take the Porto Racing Specialist Horse Racing Saddlery Handicap Hurdle with 6/5 favourite Bound Hill, while the last, the Gofest Family Sports Festival Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle, went to the 8/11 favourite William Money for George Blackwell and trainer Tim Vaughan.

Three to win without going off favourite were 5/2 shot Bertenbar, wo took the casinoguide.co.uk Handicap Chase for Dan Skelton; Loves Destination (10/1), winner of the Ian Vass 60th Birthday Celebration Mares’ Handicap Hurdle for rider Harry Teal and Hampshire handler Chris Gordon, and the biggest-priced winner of the day, 11/1 starterr Magic Money, who was victorious in the Battle Of Malta By Pokerlistings Handicap Chase for Harry Bannister and Warren Greatrex.
