THERE’S no let-up now Fontwell Park’s summer break is over and another packed seven-race jumps card is staged this afternoon (Thursday 29).
The track returned to action a fortnight ago with Ladies’ Evening, which was a huge success despite a power cut that caused a major headache but didn’t stop a large crowd enjoying the racing and live music.
Today’s card is an afternoon one, kicking off at 2.30pm with the Chancellor Of The Formchecker Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.
The Lynn Davies 40th/Roger Davies Memorial Beginners’ Chase, the intriguingly-named Malcolm ‘hairy’ Roberts Memorial Novices’ Handicap Hurdle and Overland Travel Handicap Chase follow the opener.
The Chancellor Of The Formchecker 40 at 40 Club Handicap Hurdle, the Tom Cannon Fontwell’s Champion Jockey Handicap Chase and the Chancellor’s Services For The Thinking Punter Handicap Hurdle round things off.
With the forecast set fair, another decent-sized crowd is expected for Fontwell’s final meeting of the school summer holidays.
Our tips for today: 2.30 Money Money Money, 3.00 Cinevator, 3.30 Doctor Ric, 4.00 Stormy Oscar, 4.30 Cannon Fodder, 5.00 Sea Cadet, 5.30 Sugar Hiccup.
After this meeting, officials at the track will turn their attentions to two big fixtures coming up.
Sunday week - September 8 - sees their annual Figure of Eight family fun day when Peppa Pig will be the VIP guest to entertain young race-goers. Prices start at £10 in advance.
Also on the horizon is Fontwell’s two-day October festival, in its third year and fast establishing itself as an important fixture in the jump-racing calendar.
This year it falls on Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5 - the latter doubling up as Super Irish Saturday which will also be a big fundraising day.
