Football round-up: Rocks make Trophy progress ... Pagham on the up

The Rocks rediscovered their goal touch to make FA Trophy progress with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bridgwater Town.

Two Ashley Robinson penalties in his first start for two months sandwiched a Harvery Whyte goal as Jamie Howell’s team brushed aside their Southern League visitors.

Fouls on James Crane and Whyte earned the penalties and both were clinically put away by Robinson.

It puts the Rocks into the third qualifying round of the Trophy, which means their home Ryman premier clash with Hampton & Richmond scheduled for that day will be postponed.

Pagham are up to tenth in division one of the Sussex League after a 4-1 win at St Francis. Howard Neighbour and Luke Kilner scored for Pagham, who were also boosted by two own goals.

There was more home misery for Selsey, who went down 1-0 to Hailsham at the High Street Ground and are now just one place outside the bottom three.

In that bottom three, in 20th, are Chichester City, who lost 3-1 at Dorking. Julian Boniface got City’s goal.

There was better news for Chichester’s second team - they beat Lingfield 6-3 at Oaklands Park.

After 37 minutes of Midhurst’s Sussex division-two visit to Newhaven, it was 5-2 to the hosts - and that was the way it stayed until the end. Gary Norgate and Luke Sheldrick scored for the Stags.

Sidlesham sit proudly at the top of division three after Kieran Hartley (2) and Gary Jones scored in a 4-1 win at Ferring. The other goal was an own goal.

And you can get all the football action and reaction in the Observer on Thursday.
