Calvin Negus is off to the USA this summer for a wonderful footballing opportunity gained through the PASS4Soccer Network programme.
The Felpham Community College, Chichester College and Newtown Villa player will join Cayuga Community College in Auburn, New York. He will arrive in August to study and play for the Spartans soccer team. He will be able to combine his studies with playing high-level football for the next four years.
Negus and his family are delighted to have secured the placement through the PASS4 Soccer Scholarship Network. His achievement in winning it is recognition of his academic achievements to date and his athletic ability.
“I chose to study in the USA as they have better facilities over there and I’ve always wanted to go to America,” he said.
“I’m most looking forward to playing football in front of a full house in stadiums, a new fresh start to life and meeting loads of new people. I chose the university as I’ve always dreamed of visiting New York and now I have the chance to live there and study. And it was the closest to my cousins over in America.”
Eleven of the 23 members of the USA’s World Cup squad – who did superbly before unluckily losing to Belgium in the last 16 – have taken up similar scholarships in the USA university system.
Negus will have access to excellent facilities while also having the opportunity to play in front of big crowds.
