Chichester City win a thriller thanks to McCarthy magic

Chichester City came out on top in a thrilling 5-4 victory in division one of Sussex League at Uckfield thanks to Aran McCarthy’s hat-trick.

City were 2-0 up inside half an hour, McCarthy scoring both goals, and Daniel Watts got their third just before the 40-minute

mark.

On the stroke of half-time George Callingham pulled one back for the hosts and Uckfield reduced the deficit further on 57 minutes through Alexander Saunders.

Dan Smith restored Chichester’s two-goal advantage but four minutes later Steven McGowan got Uckfield’s third.

McCarthy sealed his hat-trick in the 76th minute but, with five minutes to go, Callingham made it 5-4 to set up a nervous finish which City survived.

City travel to Lingfield on Saturday still with work to do to get out of the bottom three.
