Colts have won the cup... Seals are up... Cadets put up brave effort

Colts managers Paul Symmonds and Phil McGlone fielded a full-strength squad.

Chichester won a fantastic game of football but both sides should be very proud of all their efforts in putting on a great show.

Selsey Seals 4 Angmering 0

Selsey clinched promotion to the A league with an emphatic 4-0 win over Angmering – a feat even more improbable after they struggled to put together 11 players at the start of the season. Help from Duncan Terry and Barnham FC ensured a team could be put out each week.

Against Angmering, Selsey started a bit sluggishly for the second week in a row and Angmering forced a fine save from Joshua Jones. Midway through the first half a defensive mix-up allowed Ryan Hains to sprint past the defenders and smash the ball into the top corner from 18 yards – and Selsey then settled into some nice football.

Next on the scoresheet was Leandro Da Silva as his corner was missed by the keeper who could only watch it drop into the back of the net.

Good work by Rhys Grocott, Levi Devlin, Jensen Carrurthers and Ewan Lennox ended with a cross for Luke Ayling to put Selsey into a 3-0 lead.

Angmering gave a much better show in the second half holding Selsey. One clear goal was not given, but Selsey battled away and found the fourth.

Ayling beat three players down the wing with his pace and crossed for Hains to score his second.

The defence was well-marshalled by Sam Weaver, Jamie Thomkins and Rhys Hall with Eddie Montague as defensive midfielder. MoM was Hains.

Some 400 sea cadets attended their area five-a-side football championships held at HMS Sultan, Gosport, and the Chichester Harbour and Selsey Unit sent a three-man team.

Cadets Callum Temperley (13), Max Collins (13) and George Gibbens (12) played against five-man teams and gave an excellent showing by finishing third overall.

Gibbens, of Selsey, was awarded the prestigious overall sportsmanship trophy, which he was presented with at the Chichester sea cadet unit by district officer Lt Cdr (SCC) Tim Collins.
