Sixth-form students at Felpham Community College are celebrating a comprehensive win in their League Cup final.
Students from Year 12 and Year 13 have gone the whole season unbeaten and were fully deserving of taking the area league trophy home.
All the hard work improving as a team has paid off – it is great to get a trophy.
After topping their West Sussex West league, they came through the knockout stages with some impressive victories over The Weald and Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College to make the final held at Lancing FC.
The sixth form team showed great teamwork and unity, defensively and in the attacking third. After surviving a shaky first ten minutes, they kept their first clean sheet of the season.
Goals from George Bingham, Matt Ryan and Dennis Barrett secured a 3-0 victory. Man of the match was Josh Simmonds. Captain Matt Hambleton said: “It has been a great way for a lot of the Year 13s to sign off their time at Felpham. All the hard work improving as a team has paid off – it is great to get a trophy. We feel we were deserving of the win after our unbeaten record this season.”
PE teacher Jon Hughes said: “The boys have shown amazing dedication and enthusiasm for college football this year. We hope that leaving a bit of a legacy at Felpham will inspire future year groups to aspire to compete as well as them.
“Well done boys, we are proud of what you have achieved and all the hard work you have put in.”
