THE LINE-UP of ex-Rocks playing against a Glasgow Rangers Legends team at Nyewood Lane on Saturday continues to grow.
We reported last week how Michael Birmingham, Luke Nightingale, Duncan Jupp, Darin Killpartrick, John Price and Stuart Tuck had been lined up to play for Jack Pearce’s South Coast Legends against a team of Rangers favourites.
Now he hopes Matty Russell, Guy and Miles Rutherford, Paul Thomas, Colin Hunwick and Richard Hudson will also be on the southern team.
Pompey trio Andy Awford, Guy Whittingham and Shaun North are all due to appear, with ex-Fratton favourite and England player Darren Anderton due to guest for the Rangers XI.
The game this Saturday (July 4, 2pm) will raise funds for the family of Dave Clark, a Brighton-based Rangers fan died recently in an industrial accident.
Ex-Rangers players due to take part include Andy Goram, Graham Roberts, David Healey, Derek Ferguson, Alex Rae, Michael Mols, Mark Falco, Terry Hurlock, Marvin Andrews and Mark Walters.
He hopes Matty Russell, Guy and Miles Rutherford, Paul Thomas, Colin Hunwick and Richard Hudson will also be on the southern team.
Tickets are £10 for adults, £5 for under-16s and you can pay on the day.
* Bognor have won the Ryman premier ‘Respect’ title for 2014-15.
Rocks secretary Simon Cook said the award was given to the club with the best behaviour, measured by the minimum of ‘respect’ offences on the field and taking into account the behaviour of the management team on the bench, as marked by the referee.
Respect offences cover cautions and sendings-off for things such as arguing with the match officials, kicking the ball away and wasting time. The Rocks had only three such bookings in the entire season.
Cook said: “The benches are marked in every game by the referee and in each match bar one last season our bench was awarded the maximum positive score. In one game they were awarded the next score down.
“This was a tremendous achievement and I’m sure the example set by the management team spreads on to the pitch. As a result we receive fewer bookings and fewer suspensions. We also reduce costs as every booking costs the club £10 with further costs coming from red cards and suspensions.
“We received a cheque for £1,000 as well as a trophy. We were clear winners in the premier division but beaten overall by Soham Town who have now managed to go two entire seasons without a single respect-related caution.”
