CHICHESTER were leading 1-0 when their Sussex League division-one match at Lancing was abandoned after only 18 minutes.

Heavy rain had jeopardised the fixture, but the Culver Road pitch passed a late inspection.

Dan Hegarty put City ahead not long after kick-off, curling a shot in from the corner of the box after the Lancing defence had failed to clear.

But with treacherous conditions and rain still falling, the decision was then made to call a halt.

Weather permitting, Chichester hope to return to action at Dorking on Saturday.

Pagham will host East Grinstead if their pitch – which had many areas under water last weekend – has dried out.

In division two, Midhurst are due to entertain Bexhill, but division-three outfit Sidlesham have no planned game.

Action in the West Sussex League premier division includes Bosham v Holbrook,West Chiltington v Lavant and Wittering v Faygate.

Chichester: Ender, Sanashee, Madden, Boniface, Hibbert, Hegarty, Groom, Killner, Landais, F Smith, Forry.

* Former Selsey boss Adam Hinshelwood, who is now in charge of Ryman one south side Worthing, has signed City duo Corey Heath and Connor Cody.
