It was a rain-reduced programme on the local youth football scene - but Avisford Youth and Chichester City Colts White weren’t going to let it stop them getting points on the board.
Avisford Youth 3 Arundel Colts 1
Avisford bounced back from their heavy cup loss to Pulborough to defeat an impressive Arundel side in a tight game at Rose Green.
The home side opened the scoring just ten seconds in, Layton Cummings pouncing on a defensive mistake to fire in what could possibly be one of the quickest goals of the season in any league.
The lead was doubled three minutes later in bizarre fashion. Jordan Wawrezewsia’s corner deflected off the Arundel defender covering his near post, Wawrezewsia being awarded the goal.
Avisford had several chances to extend their advantage but desperate defending and good goalkeeping kept Arundel in the game.
The rest of the first half belonged to the away side. They got the breakthrough their pressure deserved just before half-time and ended the first period well on top.
In an end-to-end second half, both sides missed a penalty as the rain worsened. Avisford sealed the three points when Finlay Brian’s shot from the edge of the area nestled in the bottom corner.
Avisford move up to second in D division. On this evidence, both sides will feature when promotion is decided at the end of the season.
Man of the match was Alex Jones.
AVISFORD: Scott-Darling, Jones, Nowak, McGinley, Cummings, Wawrezewsia, Brian. Subs-Copeland, Francis, Kill.
Wick Dynamos 2 Chi City Colts White 3
The Dynamos entertained the Colts on a cold, wet September Sunday.
The weather and the state of the pitch really played a part in the fixture, with both teams unable to show their best form.
Wick made the breakthrough but were immediately pegged back and two more for the Colts made it 3-1 at half-time. Wick battled hard and got one back but the Colts clung on to claim the three points.
Jake O’Brennan and Ryan Johnson were on the scoresheet and Johnson chipped in with an assist and claimed the man-of-the-match award.
CHICHESTER: Briant, Wilson, McGreal, Davy, O’Brennan, Moore, Rawlings, Johnson, Wells.
