BOGNOR progressed to the next round of the FA Trophy – and picked up a cool £2,700 in the process.
Two Terry Dodd goals proved to be the difference as the Rocks beat Ryman one north side Thurrock at Nyewood Lane.
And the hosts got off to the perfect start by taking the lead with barely 30 seconds on the clock.
Beautiful work from Ollie Pearce on the right saw him drive the ball across goal, with Ben Johnson unselfishly cutting back for Terry Dodd to slot home from six yards.
Bognor continued to up the tempo, with Stuart Axten heading wide and Johnson seeing his effort blocked by the visiting keeper.
Against the run of play, Thurrock equalised with their first real meaningful effort on goal when a mistake from Anthony Ender allowed Jordan Clark to level the scores.
But the Rocks regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when another flowing move allowed Dodd to sweep the ball home from 12 yards for his and Bognor’s second.
In the second half, Thurrock could have been level as Axten sliced a clearance goalwards. But luckily for the defender, Ender was on hand to spare his blushes with a smart stop.
At the other end Pearce was fouled just outside the box. But after dusting himself down, his curled free-kick went just wide.
On 71 minutes the visitors were reduced to ten men when following a brief scuffle. Thurrock captain Lewis Spence was given a straight red with Bognor’s goal scorer Dodd booked during the melee.
In search of his hat-trick Dodd flashed an effort wide from the angle of the box.
With Bognor closing the game down to successfully to book their place in the next round in two weeks’ time. The draw is on Monday
