BOGNOR’S summer rebuilding job has got a lot tougher after the departure of two more players.

Top scorer Terry Dodd is on his way – apparently to fellow Ryman premier side Lewes – after nearly fouryears at Nyewood Lane while winger Arron Hopkinson is also moving on.

It follows the departures of defender Stuart Axten and captain and midfielder Kane Wills.

Fans have expressed disappointment and shock, especially at the loss of Dodd, who scored nearly 40 goals last season.

But club secretary Simon Cook moved to reassure them, saying: “Although fans will be disappointed that a number of players have left, please be patient.

“Players leave for a number of reasons - they can earn more money elsewhere or they no longer fit in with the management’s long-term plans for the club.

“It is well known that we will not pay money that we do not have but equally we have a reputation for discovering or developing young talent.

“Doug Tuck has committed and signed a further year’s contract and there are a number of excellent younger players who have the chance to come through from the youth team. Other players such as James Crane, Harvey Whyte and Craig Robson are also contracted.

“Jamie is working extremely hard on bringing in other players, and as soon as we have further news we will obviously make an announcement.

“In the meantime, do not panic - the club’s playing staff has been very settled for several years, but sometimes a number of changes are needed to freshen the squad.”
