Compton apologises over Twitter comments

Pompey winger Jake Compton he has made just four substitute appearances since September

Pompey winger Jake Compton he has made just four substitute appearances since September

Guy Whittingham has revealed Jack Compton has given him an apology over his Twitter comment.

The Pompey winger vented his frustration on social media on Monday afternoon.

He wrote: ‘Had enough of been (sic) treated like a kid! #fedup just want to play football.’

Compton later removed the post, before insisting it was not football-related.

Caretaker boss Whittingham had been made aware of the 23-year-old’s comments.

The former West Bromwich Albion player has since apologised in person to him over the incident.

Now Whittingham is keen to move on and focus on football.

He said: ‘Jack came and apologised to me.

‘He told me he was going to get his head down and work.

‘I believe it was written out of frustration and he has said it is nothing to do with football.

‘I certainly don’t want to make a mountain out of a molehill and we move on.

‘If he is not doing it in games or on the training pitch then that’s a problem.

‘But that is not the issue here and Jack is continuing to do his best.

‘There are games over Christmas and new year which will come thick and fast.

‘We have a squad of 19 and will use them all. He is part of a squad and if we need to put him in there we will do.’

Compton started seven of the first eight league matches this season.

However, he has made just four substitute appearances since September.
