ANDY AWFORD sounded the battlecry for Dagenham and demanded: Let’s get after them.
The Pompey boss is calling on his side to produce a powerful start to bulldoze the Daggers tonight.
The Blues go into the game looking to end a run of three league defeats in a row.
Awford wants his players to lift Fratton Park by tearing into Wayne Burnett’s side from the outset.
He said: ‘Get after them: That’s the message.’
‘Let’s not wait. Let’s have a fast start.
‘We’ve had a blip, but we’re in this and we’ll get out of it together.
‘We’ve got a great opportunity to do that now against Dagenham. They are in no great shape themselves.
‘It’s an opportunity for us to go out and play with energy, enthusiasm, tempo.
‘We need to get after them and go and get that victory.
‘We need to set a tempo that sets the pattern of the game.’
Awford spoke to his players yesterday about the need to take individual responsibility for turning the corner.
‘That was the pre-cursor for a high-tempo session.
‘I’ve told them don’t wait for someone else – you do it,’ said Awford.
‘It’s no good saying Jed (Wallace) will go down the wing, cross it and we’ll score, or Westie (Craig Westcarr) will produce a piece of magic for us.
‘We can’t say Ricky Holmes will pull something out of the bag or Jack Whatmough will hit a 60-yard ball.
‘I’ve told them “you be the one to do it.” Don’t wait.
‘If we all have that attitude I expect us to win that game.
‘They trained really well yesterday.
‘They had a bright, energetic bubbly morning.
‘We’ll continue that today and make sure we go out in the right frame of mind.’
