Andy Barcham will push his claims for a first-team recall when he turns out for Pompey’s reserves today.

The winger was left out of Andy Awford’s starting XI for the trip to Wycombe at the weekend.

That was despite an eye-catching display against Southend which earned him praise from the Fratton faithful.

Yet Awford’s desire to operate with three central defenders at Adams Park – involving six changes in the process – did pay off as the visitors recorded an impressive goalless draw at the League Two leaders.

Barcham was an unused substitute at Wanderers, but will today get a runout at Furze Lane against Bournemouth (2pm).

Nigel Atangana and Adam Webster will also feature, having lost their places following the Southend defeat.

Atangana was not used from the bench against the Chairboys, while Webster failed to make the match-day 18.

New recruit Josh Passley took on the right wing-back role at the weekend as Webster was left out after starting the previous five Blues fixtures.

Goalkeeper Michael Poke is a notable absentee against the Cherries as he is sidelined with a niggle which is expected to clear up in time for Saturday’s visit of Hartlepool.

Instead, Academy keeper Alex Bass will be presented with his first reserve appearance of the season.

Another absentee is Bradley Tarbuck, who has a match for loan club Dorchester tonight.

The forward made a favourable debut on Saturday, featuring for 85 minutes, as the Evo-Stik Southern premier division strugglers won at high-flying Hungerford Town 2-0.

Victory lifted the Magpies out of the relegation zone and this evening they entertain Arlesey Town.

Jack Maloney, who has returned from a successful three-month stint with Poole Town, will again play for Paul Hardyman’s side.

Meanwhile, Chad Field, currently on a youth loan at Ryman League premier side Bognor, will line-up at the heart of Pompey’s defence.

Paul McCallum has not been considered, however, as he serves a ban following his sending off against Southend.

The suspension rules him out of all competitive football, which also applies to Final Third Development matches.
