Joe Devera went from villain to hero in the space of a few minutes as he grabbed a vital winner for Pompey in their 3-2 win over Stevenage tonight.

The Blues defender popped up with a cracking left-foot drive to snatch all three points after his dreadful back-header presented Boro with their equaliser.

Pompey got off to a slow start in the contest and fell behind when Dean Wells volleyed home before Jed Wallace’s angled drive took a slight deflection and found the bottom corner.

Miles Storey put Pompey in the driving seat as he smashed home after Danny Hollands’ glorious pass put him clean through.

But Chris Beardsley made the most of Devera’s error to level matters before the Pompey defender had the final say to claim a vital win for Andy Awford and his side.
