Home tie for Pompey - if they win televised replay

ANDY AWFORD welcomed the possibility of a home tie in the FA Cup second round.

But the Pompey boss promised his men aren’t looking beyond next week’s televised return with Aldershot when it comes to their Cup prospects.

Last night’s draw paired the winner of the Shots replay with either Rochdale or Northampton.

The Blues were made to wait for their prospective opponents, as they were the last tie pulled out of the bowl for the matches to be played between December 5 and 8.

First up, however, is the trip to the Recreation Ground on Wednesday, November 19 after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Fratton Park.

Awford was pleased to see his side will have a home clash to look forward to if they negotiate that test.

But the focus is firmly on delivering against Plymouth – before turning their attention to their rivals from across the county.

Awford said: ‘They made us wait, didn’t they!

‘I’m happy it’s a potential home time. I thought it was going to be Bristol City and Steve Cotterill, with them coming out late.

‘We have to focus on Plymouth. Then we have to get through – that’s something I’m confident we can do.

‘It’s going to be a toughie at the Rec. It’s a local derby and it will be a passionate occasion.

‘That was the case on Sunday and it will be the same going there. We’ll focus on Saturday first – and then get ready for that.’
