Justin Edinburgh has been denied permission to speak to Pompey over the vacant manager’s job.
Newport County have announced they have today been approached by the Blues over their boss.
Yet the League Two club rejected the enquiry and insisted Edinburgh will remain.
The 43-year-old, who is a former Pompey player, oversaw County’s 3-0 win over the Blues in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last month.
Pompey will tomorrow begin interviewing candidates on their short list as they seek to bring in a boss to replace Guy Whittingham.
