Pompey’s Academy is to be the main beneficiary with the launch of the Pompey Lottery tonight.

The initiative is targeting redistributing all profits to help boost the development of young players at all levels with the Blues.

To operate weekly, the lottery will offer the chance to win cash prizes and a range of Fratton Park experiences.

In addition, it will assist in financially bolstering a youth set-up which has produced the likes of Jack Whatmough, Jed Wallace, Dan Butler, Adam Webster, Ashley Harris and Ryan Williams in very recent times.

Supporters are invited to attend tonight’s 7pm launch in the Victory Lounge, with Andy Awford, Whatmough, Wallace and Butler also lined up to be present.

Chief executive Mark Catlin said: ‘The lottery is a significant fundraising initiative for the club and we are sure fans will want to support it. It is an affordable way every Pompey fan can back the club.

‘The cash it raises will be earmarked for developing our young players, which is something we are sure every fan will back.

‘In recent months we have begun to see the benefits of developing our own players through the likes of Jack Whatmough and Adam Webster breaking into the first team.

‘We have been planning the lottery launch for several months now and it is an important funding strand for the club going forward.

‘We are sure the free-launch event will be well-attended and I urge fans to reserve their tickets as soon as possible.’

Fans can reserve a place for the event by e-mailing lottery@pompeyfc.co.uk, with the chance to sign up for the lottery on the night.

Awford is also on hand for a question and answer session to be conducted with supporters early on in the evening.

Also present will be Eric Coleborn, one of the club’s presidents who launched the original Pompey Lottery back in the 1970s when he worked in the commercial department.

Afterwards, the Champions League semi-final second leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will be broadcast on the big screen.
