Guy Whittingham welcomed a ‘tremendous point’ for Pompey after a 1-1 draw at Doncaster.
Jed Wallace’s 75th-minute leveller helped the Blues get a return at the League One leaders.
The visitors were poor in the first half and went behind eight minutes before the break when Chris Brown fired home.
But Whittingham was pleased with how his men picked up after the interval and felt they deserved a point.
The caretaker boss said: ‘I think it was a tremendous point - especially after we played so well on Tuesday (at Leyton Orient) and came away with nothing.
‘We have come up to Doncaster and come from 1-0 down to get a 1-1 draw and I think that is a fantastic effort.
‘The second half was much better. In the first half, we gave them too much respect and stood off them.
‘We didn’t get close and we allowed them to play how they wanted to play.
‘At half-time, we told them that they had to get closer to them, get in their faces and we did that. We deservedly came back into the game.’
