DISABLED youngsters put their impressive cricket skills on display at Middleton Cricket Club.
The Southern Area Partnership host many events throughout the year for youngsters with learning and physical difficulties.
Matt Hansford, chairman of Middleton Cricket Club, approached the group last year about an ‘inclusion cricket’ day. Always wanting to create new opportunities, Sandy Fell and Ali Groves from SAP jumped at the chance.
Seven sports leaders from the Littlehampton Academy worked alongside coaches from Middleton CC and put 70-plus youngsters from nine different local schools through their paces.
Skills were practised in the morning and the youngsters had chance to apply these in games in the afternoon.
Sussex cricket development officers were present and as a result of the enthusiasm and clear enjoyment shown by all it is very likely that an inclusion cricket club will now take shape at Middleton.
Sandy Fell from SAP said: “Events like these take hours and hours to organise but the smiles on the faces of youngsters who ordinarily would not get a chance to shine make the efforts worthwhile.”
