Goodwood’s clerk of the course Seamus Buckley is pleased with the condition of the track ahead of Glorious Goodwood, which starts a week today (Tuesday, July 30).
After walking the course on Tuesday afternoon, Buckley commented: “We have been watering overnight for the past two weeks and we are where we want to be at this stage.
“I am calling the ground good, good to firm in places on the straight and good to firm, good in places on the round course.
“We had two millimetres of rain this morning but most of the rain has escaped us. There is the possibility of more showers on Saturday, which could alleviate the need for further irrigation on the eve of next week’s meeting.
“We are looking at things on a daily basis and will make decisions regarding watering as and when the need arises.”
