The May Festival is over and it’s straight on to the Three Friday Nights, writes Goodwood racecourse MD Adam Waterworth.

We feel we overcame poor weather to make the festival a success, and something we can build on next year.

But no sooner is that feature of our calendar behind us than another one is with us.

Tonight brings the first of this year’s Three Friday Nights.

Rudimental are in town and I’m delighted to say it’s a complete sell-out.

Although some of these evenings have previously sold out on the night, we’ve never sold them out in advance before, so that’s heartening.

I think it’s a combination of the success of previous years’ Three Friday Nights and the fact the act we’re kicking off with are doing so well at the moment with their singles and albums.

We’re hopeful the second and third in this year’s series, which star Andy Cato of Groove Armada and Trevor Nelson, will also sell out.

As ever, we’ve worked hard to keep up the quality of racing at these Friday night fixtures.

It’s important to remember we are catering for race-goers as well as those coming primarily for the music.

Each of the Friday-night fixtures will be headed by a class three race.

This week, that’s the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Fillies handicap, for which we had an excellent 21 entries.

All in all, the entries look like adding up to a good night’s competitive racing.

There are high hopes for some nice evening sunshine – which is the least we deserve after last Friday’s downpours.

Although the Three Friday Nights are taking much of our attention at the moment, Glorious Goodwood isn’t all that far away and the closing of entries for the Sussex Stakes earlier this week was another reminder the festival is only weeks away.

As usual, we were delighted by the quality and quantity of entries revealed – just another reason to look forward to Glorious, that’s if you needed one...
