GLORIOUS GOODWOOD: Tips for Wednesday
Scintillating mile action draws the crowds to Goodwood on the opening afternoon of the five-day Glorious meeting, where the increasingly impressive Canford Cliffs is all set to land the Sussex Stakes, writes the Press Association.
Last year's runaway Coventry Stakes winner has fulfilled juvenile promise and more recently, recording nonchalant victories in the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.
Richard Hannon rates the Tagula colt as one the best he has ever trained and the displays in Ireland and at Royal Ascot certainly give plenty of substance to the hype.
In receipt of 8lb from defending champion Rip Van Winkle, Canford Cliffs can hammer home the advantage with Aidan O'Brien's charge having questions to answer after disappointing on his reappearance in the Queen Anne.
Two-year-olds get their chance to shine in the seven-furlong Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes which can go to Stentorian.
Hannon inevitably holds a strong hand and his two runners will be well supported, but Mark Johnston also excels here and his representative has looked progressive this season.
Beaten only by the classy Zoffany last time, the son of Street Cry holds some good entries for the season so a big run and subsequent campaign is to be expected.
