The cricket season is still a few weeks away but it’s already a busy time for Aldwick Cricket Club.

They have held their annual meeting, indoor nets are taking place on Sunday mornings and they are finalising details of another week-long tour to Dorset in June.

The club have also held their presentation dinner at Bognor Football Club.

At the annual meeting, Keelan Belcher was voted first-team captain, with Joel Lodge supporting him as vice-captain. For the seconds, the experienced Arthur Bradbury was promoted to captain with Matt Robinson as his deputy.

Other club captains are Nathan Belcher (Sunday first XI), Dion Sampson (Acorns), and Ian Guppy (midweek). John Heredge continues to be club president and the indefatigable Jim Smith remains chairman, umpire, colts co-ordinator, fixture secretary, league representative and club welfare officer.

The big winner at the presentation dinner was all-rounder Keelan Belcher with seven awards, including best batting average and best bowling average.

Young Alex Cooper also did well with players’ player and best under-17 colt. Ollie Smith won the prize for most wickets, Nathan Belcher was highest scorer (127) and best under-14 colt and champagne moment went to young Adam Robinson, who bagged a hat-trick in a league game.

Aldwick’s first and second teams play in the West Sussex Invitation League on Saturdays and they have two sides on Sunday and have a midweek fixture almost every week in the season.

New members can join the club as players or social members. If you are interested come along to pre-season nets on Sundays from 10am at Game, Set & Match in Chichester or contact Jim Smith on 01243 267041, 07901 755782 or at jamesjmb2011@hotmail.co.uk – or go and meet the gang and help at the club’s NatWest community morning this Saturday (March 24) from 9am at Felpham rec.
