Jake joins college's England gang

Jake Joyce is the latest member of Chichester College's England gang.

The rugby ace follows in the footsteps of footballing fellow student Matt Wood in being chosen for his sport's English Colleges squad.

He says he owes his success to his coach Steve Christian for mentoring him to a high level.

He has already had his first England training session in Bristol.

Like Wood, Joyce is taking a national diploma in sport at the Chichester campus, in which the practical aspect of their courses combine with the theory.

Joyce travels to Esher to play rugby when he's not playing at college. "I'm now really concentrating on my training to maintain and improve my rugby ability," said Joyce, who would like to turn professional.

Joyce will play his first game for England Colleges against Wales on February 14.

Coach Christian said: "I've been impressed with Jake's dedication, which has paid dividends with the England Colleges selection and his selection for Sussex under-20s.

"His work ethic, both in training and on the pitch, are exemplary and an example to others.

"He is playing for Esher, a National League side, and I have no doubt that his playing career will go from strength to strength."
