Felpham Colts Rangers under-13s finally celebrated victory in a six-a-side tournament with a very professional performance at the annual Football Fiesta at Crowborough FC.
So often the nearly boys, Rangers won a thrilling final with only 50 seconds of extra-time remaining.
Rangers progressed to the semi-finals by finishing top of their group and ran out 2-0 winners against Woodingdean with goals from Morgan Keen and Robert Peart.
The final versus Patcham promised to be much tougher, with Patcham also reaching the final undefeated. The opposition were well-known to the Rangers team, having won the Felpham Colts tournament for the previous two seasons.
During a fine first-half display from Patcham, Rangers came under real pressure for the frist time in the tournament. However, half-time substitutions by the management team of Shaun Santer and Paul Gamblin started to sway the game in their favour.
The match entered extra-time still goalless, but with less than a minute to go of the extra 30, an excellent through-ball from Keen found Arthur Drabik in space and he finished with a superb first-time angled shot.
It was his third goal of the tournament and Felpham held on for the remaining few seconds and the final whistle led to joyous celebrations.
The 1-0 victory meant Rangers had only conceded one goal in seven matches and they thoroughly deserved to be victorious. They hope to continue their good form at the Felpham Colts tournament this weekend.
