BOGNOR Amateur Angling Society are holding an open beach competition at the town’s West End beach on Saturday, August 9.

It will be held from 7pm to midnight with the booking-in and draw from 6pm at Marine Drive West, Bognor, opposite The Waverley pub.

Entry is £8 for seniors, £4 for OAPs and juniors. There will be cash prizes, subject to entry.

The club held a club beach match.

Results: 1 Mark Steward, 1 wrasse, 14oz; 2 Wayne Hart, 1 wrasse, 9oz. 8 people fished, 2 people weighed. Total agg weight: 1lb 7oz.

Another club match was held at Bognor Pier, and was won by Jumbo Sandell with an 11oz scad.

Ten people fished but only one weighed in.

Stedham Angling Club held their 80th anniversary fishing match on the River Rother at Stedham, up and downstream of the bridge.

Nineteen anglers took part and the winner was Geoff Oram with 5lb 10oz, including eight drams. Runner-up was Steve French with a 5lb 6oz haul and third was Kevin Hills jnr with 4lb 8oz.

Hills won the trophy for the biggest fish. He netted a 2lb 15oz chub, a brilliant catch for a match on a river.
