Ten gymnasts from the Arun Gymnastics Club travelled to the K2 in Crawley for the south east regional advanced bronze, silver and gold competition, where they had quite a successful day.

In this competition, final positions were based on the cumulative score from a floor routine and the best score from two vaults.

Rosie Budge, competing in the advanced girls’ eight-to-nine-years category put in a wonderful two vaults that gave her the best score for the discipline and, when combined with the score for her floor routine, it was good enough to give her overall second place and a very well-deserved silver medal.

Olivia Hepburn and Kseniya Kagarova represented Arun in the advanced ten-year-old girls’ group and both girls put in good performances on both vault and floor that saw them presented with rosettes for their efforts, with Olivia finishing overall fourth and Kseniya fifth.

Emily Day and Jenna Partridge competed at bronze level in the 14-15-year-old girls’ category and in an extremely-close overall competition, both Arun girls scored exactly the same on floor and were separated by only 0.15 of a mark, with Emily finishing with a rosette for fourth and Jenna ending up seventh.

Arun had Sophie Haines competing for them in the advanced 13-plus girls, where an excellent floor routine for which she was placed first and superb effort on vault earned her bronze for overall third place.

Arun’s older gymnasts Chantal Mawbey, Jordan Kitchen, Lily Smyth and Lucy Stephenson-Gill were competing at silver level in the final round.

Lucy competed in the 14-year-old girls’ category, where she put in a very good performance on vault and finished with a rosette for overall fifth. Chantal, Lily and Jordan all competed in the 16-plus girls’ category and Chantal was most consistent with her combined vault and floor scores earning her a rosette for fourth.

Coaches Carolyn Millar and Natasha Andrade-Paris were very happy with the performances in general and pleased that quite a few individuals had achieved the qualifying score to compete at the next level up for future competitions.
