Basketball: It’s a dog’s life for Huskies as Pirates prevail

Bognor Pirates kept their 100 per cent home record as they beat Holbrook Huskies 76-58.

The Pirates started quickly with Matt Robbins opening the scoring by driving to the basket, drawing fouls and making his shots from the line.

They continued to attack at every opportunity with Joe Mclaren proving a huge problem for the Huskies.

But the Pirates were not at their best defensively and allowed the Huskies to grab some points of their own and the quarter ended 27-15 to the Pirates.

The second quarter saw the Pirates sharpen up at the back and pile more pressure on. They held the Huskies to just eight points in the quarter and increased their lead to 45-23.

The Pirates played some excellent basketball at both ends. At the offensive end all members of the team contributed to the score.

The Huskies managed to score two threes among their baskets to keep their score ticking over. The quarter ended 65-37. The fourth quarter saw a role reversal as the Huskies began to attack with more determination. They began to increase their score and catch up with the Pirates.

Bognor couldn’t regain their finishing touch but continued to work hard to ensure the victory.
