Eastbourne International defending champion Madison Keys is heading back to defend her trophy at the Aegon International Eastbourne.

Rising star of women’s tennis, Keys, 20, powered to her first WTA Tour title twelve months ago with a three-set win over Angelique Kerber in the final.

The world No.17, who reached the semi-final of the Australian Open in January, joins two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova in the field at Devonshire Park as the world’s best players finalise their preparations for The Championships.

The Aegon International Eastbourne, one of the WTA Premier events on the world tour, will take place the week before Wimbledon from 20-27 June 2015 and forms an integral part of the new British grass court season, which in 2015 will see a three week window between Roland Garros and Wimbledon for the very first time.

The extended grass court season will enable some of the world’s very best players extra time to find their feet on grass and make the most of the very best grass courts in the country.

Speaking on the announcement, Keys said: “Going back to the scene of my first WTA Tour title will be a special moment.

The Aegon International Eastbourne holds many great memories and I am very excited to play there again. I feel comfortable on the courts and will be trying very hard to defend my title.

The great fans and the special venue really helped me play my best tennis and I am looking forward to seeing all the friendly faces again in June.”

The Aegon International Eastbourne Tournament Director, Gavin Fletcher, said: “Madison was a very popular winner last year and played some outstanding tennis throughout the week.

“It is great for the Aegon International Eastbourne that the defending champion is back to try and lift the trophy once more.
