Edward Bryant School have completed an amazing sporting year as county champions.

Having qualified for no less than eight Sussex School Games finals throughout the year, Bognor-based Edward Bryant had three teams representing the West Sussex West partnership in the summer finals at the K2 in Crawley.

The Year 4 tri-golfers were well placed and received certificates for determination, the hi-five netballers played well in some very hard-fought games and showed great sportsmanship and teamwork; but it was the key steps gymnasts who excelled and, against some high-standard opposition, produced some wonderful performances in all three of the disciplines – vault, body management and floor.

When the results were finally announced, after a recount, Edward Bryant and West Sussex West were declared winners. They received their gold medals from Ade Adepitan, the British sprinter.

Gym coach Melanie Edgson said: “ It was down to consistency – all eight gymnasts produced excellent routines. I am very proud of them.”

PE teacher Kathi Lock is sure it is as a result of the London 2012 Olympics that the children have been so motivated to achieve and get involved in sport at the school.
