Nicholas Colbourne and Nicholas Jones from Chichester were part of the winning team GBR Red in the Brewin Dolphin Commodores’ Cup in a week-long international regatta in the Solent.
Colbourne and Jones were racing against some of the world’s top ocean and the crème de la crème of ‘amateur’ sailors on board the A35 yacht CNBC which won the prestigious Commodores’ Cup as part of the three-boat winning GBR Red outfit.
In challenging conditions, international teams from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Great Britain compete in the regatta, organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club.
The teams were treated to a visit from HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh made their last stop of their Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK, visiting Cowes Yacht Haven where the competing yachts are moored.
Racing finished with GBR Red lifting the Brewin Dophin Commodores’ Cup with a 63-point lead. Chief executive of the RORC, Eddie Warden Owen, said: “The Brewin Dolphin Commodores’ Cup has been a success. We ended on a high note with the last race, which was absolutely fabulous.”
