Westbourne House School pupil Comfort Yeates has set her sights on qualifying for the English trampoline, DMT and tumbling championships in September and the world championships in Bulgaria in November.

The 12-year-old took part in her first competition at the British championships last July, coming sixth in Britian in the women’s 11-12 age range.

She qualified for the Loule Cup, an international competition in Portugal held over the October half-term. At the end of three days of competition, Comfort and her Great Britain team-mates came first in their class.

Explaining what tumbling is, Yeates said: “It’s basically the highly-acrobatic elements of the women’s floor exercise that you may have seen the likes of Simone Biles compete in last summer in the Olympics.”

She has been doing gymnastics for only a few years. She now does 30-45 minutes of conditioning each day and trains in her gym three times a week.

Sponsorship is needed to help fund her place at the various events. Email her mum at annieyeates@aol.com if you can help.
